Immune Boosting Tips for Covid-19

Covid-19 is a particularly contagious virus.  In addition to taking the precaution of physical barriers (masks, hand washing, sanitizer, disinfectants) we can build our immunity from the inside out.

This virus lodges first in the throat, before going deeper into the respiratory system. We can prevent it’s progression at the outset by drinking water, gargling with salt water, using zinc lozenges, drinking hot tea (especially with ginger).

Include the following in the diet:

Nutrient dense foods:

  • Bone broth, liver, cod liver oil

Anti-microbial, anti-viral and immune strengthening foods:

  • Ginger, garlic, green tea

Gut Health for Immunity:

  • Fermented foods, probiotics

Mushrooms:

  • Reishi, maitake, shitake, turkey tail

Vitamins:

  • Vitamins A, vitamin B, vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc

Herbs, etc:

  • Cordyceps, astragalus, andrographis, licorice root

  • Peppermint, turmeric, monolaurin

Source Naturals makes a "Wellness Formula," which is well rounded.  I prefer the capsule form.

*A note on Elderberry, which is commonly taken to help with colds and flus. In the case of Covid-19, there is some evidence showing that it is useful ONLY as a preventative, and should be discontinued if any Covid-19 symptoms occur.

Chinese Herbs can be very useful, and are prescribed on an individual basis, according to constitution and pattern.

Stay well!
