Muscle Spasms - How to Alleviate Them?
Muscle spasms and tension can be acute or chronic and can appear for many reasons. From emotional stress & repetitive tasks to poor posture or too much exercise, this is a very common complaint among our patients. There are several things you can do to address this:
Take your Magnesium. It helps regulate the tone of the muscles.
Acupuncture, of course!
Other kinds of body work such as Massage, Rolfing or Myo-Facial release.
Soak in Epsom Salt baths. Again, the magnesium in these salts with soften tight muscles
Drink electrolytes and minerals in your water. These are necessary to give pliability to your muscles.
Stretching. This one is obvious, but often forgotten about in the daily grind. Even 5 minutes a day can alleviate chronic tightness
Similarly, foam rolling over the muscles can get into the smaller fibers, providing even more relief. (There are lots of YouTube video tutorials on this!)
Warm compresses. Warmth will help the area to relax and bring essential circulation. Try a warm towel or heating pad over the affected area.
