Muscle Spasms - How to Alleviate Them?

Muscle spasms and tension can be acute or chronic and can appear for many reasons. From emotional stress & repetitive tasks to poor posture or too much exercise, this is a very common complaint among our patients. There are several things you can do to address this:

  • Take your Magnesium. It helps regulate the tone of the muscles.

  • Acupuncture, of course!

  • Other kinds of body work such as Massage, Rolfing or Myo-Facial release.

  • Soak in Epsom Salt baths. Again, the magnesium in these salts with soften tight muscles

  • Drink electrolytes and minerals in your water. These are necessary to give pliability to your muscles.

  • Stretching. This one is obvious, but often forgotten about in the daily grind. Even 5 minutes a day can alleviate chronic tightness

  • Similarly, foam rolling over the muscles can get into the smaller fibers, providing even more relief. (There are lots of YouTube video tutorials on this!)

  • Warm compresses. Warmth will help the area to relax and bring essential circulation. Try a warm towel or heating pad over the affected area.
